Tree Seedling Distribution

One of the significant public relations programs of the Conservation District is the tree seedling program. This program funds the District's educational programs as well as providing us with the opportunity to meet and talk to many people who would not ordinarily visit us. For example; homeowners who want a couple of seedlings that will grow to shade their home, who want to plant trees to act as a property boundary, who want to plant Christmas trees or who want to plant something just to watch it grow.

All orders must be received at the Conservation District office by
Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

In addition to the tree seedling sales program, 4 other programs provide seedlings to the public.

  1. Tree seedlings are separately packaged and distributed to each elementary student in Clinton County. These 3,500 seedlings are supplied by Asperline Log Homes and the International Paper Company.
  2. Packaging these many little seedlings (6"to 12" in height) has been accomplished with assistance of volunteers from Bald Eagle-Nittany High School, Lock Haven University, Woodsmen of the World Youth Group, the KCSD Area Vocational Technical School, and other organizations.
  3. Students from Head Start and from the Lock Haven Day Care plant seedlings with help from the District's Education Coordinator, the District Manager and Program Assistant. The seedlings are planted in Hanna Park, a public park at the north side of Lock Haven. From here, as they mature, they are transplanted to city-owned properties for their beauty and environmental benefits.
  4. Homeowner “Habipaks” are available for you and your family all year long through the Conservation Products Brochure. “Habipaks” are each designed for the specific area of the country in which you live. They are designed to create not only beauty for your landscape but also to provide lasting value to your property and benefit wildlife. The “Homeowners Habipak” includes trees such as White Dogwood, Old Fashion Lilac, Colorado Blue Spruce, Red Bud, and Red Maple. Other kinds of “Habipacks” are available that include specific trees to create your special habitat such as flowering shrubs, wildlife, evergreen, and nut trees. Also available through the Conservation Products Brochure are Morel mushroom kits, grapes & strawberries, fern, and ground cover plant kits.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission gives the conservation district seedlings for people to plant on land which is open to hunting. These people are not Farm-Game Cooperators but have land sufficient to plant 50 or more seedlings which will mature, providing food and cover for animals. Thousands of seedlings are planted in Clinton County each year as a benefit of this program. Orders are usually taken during October, unfortunately, this program is not available for the year 2000.
