Schedule of Events

 

Regular Board meetings are held the third Thursday of every month.

  • January, February, March - 3 PM
  • April, May, June - 7:30 PM
  • July - 4:00 PM  (Annual Planning Meeting)
  • July - 6:15 PM, Regular Board Meeting
  • August (Time and Place to be Announced) - Annual Tour Before; Picnic held afterwards
  • September, October, November - 7:30 PM
  • December - 3 PM
 
Note: Meetings are open to the public. Cooperating agencies are encouraged to report their activities at each meeting. Members of the public are asked to call ahead to schedule topics for the agenda. Call the Conservation District office for more information @ 570-726-3798.
 
January -
  • County Holiday - New Year's Day
  • We review our Goals and Objectives and Strategic Plans for the year
February, March 
  • Order seedlings for planting on private property, no restrictions.  Costs range from .50 to $1.00 with discounts given in lots of 25. Trees are sold with a minimum of 25 each.  Generally, we sell 5 varieties of evergreens and several "hardwood" types such as white birch and flowering dogwood. Proceeds from these sales go toward conservation education programs.
  • Conservation Education booklets are distributed to elementary schools with the theme for the Conservation Poster Contest.
  • County Holiday - President's Day (February) and Good Friday (March).
April -
  • Tree seedling sale, school trees and public pick-up.  Call the Conservation District for more information, (570) 726-3798.  Usually held the week of Arbor Day - last Friday in April.
  • Earth Day is April 22nd.
  • Soil and Water Stewardship Week usually starts the last Sunday in April through the last Sunday in May.
May -
(always the first 
Wednesday) 
  • County Envirothon, high school students are tested in five natural resource topics.  Winning team goes on to the State Environthon.   
(Monday and Tuesday the week before Memorial Day)
  • State Envirothon.   County winning teams compete at the state level.
 
  • Conservation Poster Contest entries are judged and winners awarded. 
  • Max Bossert Award and Sponsorship to attend the Conservation Leadership School are awarded to high school students. 
  • Rich Ramm Memorial Scholarship is awarded. 
  • County Holiday - Memorial Day.
June -
  • Conservation Summer Day Camp, 3rd or 4th week of June.
July -
  • Annual Planning meeting (Goals and objectives for next year are developed) - public participation encouraged.
  • Joint Annual Conference Meeting - State Conservation Commission and Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts. 
  • County Holiday - Independence Day (4th).
August - 
  • National Canon Envirothon. 
  • Annual Farm Tour / Picnic. 
September - 
  • Conservation Field Day for 6th Graders. 
  • Farm - City Day Celebration (last Saturday in September). 
  • County Holiday - Labor Day.
October -
  • Dirt and Gravel Road applications are due from Municipalities.
 November - 
 
  • Official Farm-City Week to mark the dependence of Farm and City folks on each other.  (The week before Thanksgiving).
  • County Holidays - Election Day, Veterans' Day, and Thanksgiving. 
 December
  • Dirt and Gravel Road applications are ranked and awarded. 
  • County Holidays - The day before, Christmas Day, and the day after. 
  • We start all over again!
