In 2000, a $450 sponsorship was presented to Sheila Jones, for the Conservation Leadership School. The Penn State Conservation Leadership School is an intensive two week environmental school held in July, located at Penn State's Stone Valley recreation area. It is geared towards high school students who are interested in natural resource management, conservation, and exploring solutions to environmental problems. The course encourages hands-on, field participation in forestry, water quality management, soil analysis and use, conservation legislation and regulation, public speaking, environmental issues, low-impact recreation, general natural history, speleology, and more. Clinton County students can apply for this sponsorship if they are between the ages of 15 and 18, have completed ninth grade, and have a genuine interest in conservation. Students interested in applying for this sponsorship can contact the Conservation District or see their guidance counselor for the application packet. Completed applications along with a letter of intent and a letter of support from a teacher, are due at the Conservation District office by mid-May.
