Conservation Day Camp

The Conservation Summer Day Camp is held in June each year at the Keystone Central School District's Center for Environmental Education in Mackeyville. The Day Camp is an opportunity for students to learn more about conservation of natural resources and our environment in an outdoor setting.

The Camp is open to any student in Clinton County or the Keystone Central School District area who has completed fourth, fifth, or sixth grade. The dates for 2000 are June 19-23.

Students take part in various activities during the week, which may include learning about birds, streams, trees, wildlife, geology, wetlands, hazardous clean-ups and snakes. Students also participate in a mini-Envirothon, field trips, nature trail maintenance, and one overnight stay.

This year's camp director will be Tanya Lelo, Education Coordinator/Resource Technician at the Conservation District. Instructors are generally teachers and college students - most recently, Donna Dorey, Willard Smith, Julie Remaley, Mary Ann Bower, and numerous Lock Haven and Penn State University students.

There are full and partial sponsorships available that cover the cost of the camp. The sponsorships in the past have been provided by grants from International Paper Company Foundation, Porter Township Elementary PTO, Mill Hall Elementary PTO, McGhee Elementary PTO, Sugar Valley PTO, Clinton County Forestry Association, Clinton County Conservation District, and the Lloyd Wilson Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

If you or someone you know likes the outdoors and is interested in attending the camp, please contact the Conservation District's Education Coordinator at 45 Cooperation Lane, Mill Hall, phone (570) 726-3798.  Applications will be accepted until mid-May.
